Contractor who was born and raised by his parents in Nigeria and Mumbai when he was 7years old, traveled all over the world and experienced various cultures while growing up. She attended boarding school in London between the ages of seven and nine years old, then her family relocated towards Toronto, Canada, where she lived for the bulk of her childhood and young adulthood. When she was in Toronto, Contractor excelled in academics and trained as ballet dancer of classical training. She was a student at the Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto, a school of the arts that focuses on theater and dance. She accepted a full-scholarship to pursue a degree at the University of Toronto after graduating. She earned a master's degree in theatre and double majored in social and psychology. Contractor attended the highly-regarded Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After a full year of auditions, she was offered the lead part. In 2002, Canadian reviewers praised her performance in 92 productions of Pericles. She accepted the invitation to attend Stratford's conservatory, a program which allows just four men and eight women can take a 20 weeks crash training in classical theater. Contractor's participation in the next play-season was confirmed and she received the role in Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
